AdriaClim Team

 

 PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Group of Interdisciplinary Oceanography of the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) working at the Interdepartmental Center for Research in Environmental Science (CIRSA) is active in the Ravenna University campus and is participating in AdriaCLIM project.

Research activities are devoted to ocean interdisciplinary numerical modeling, ocean forecasting, climate simulations, and interdisciplinary observations in the coastal areas. This Group will contribute to the activities related to the upgrade of the coastal Emilia Romagna Model (ERM) observing system, the numerical ecosystem modeling at the Adriatic scale, and the downscaled biogeochemical modelling in the Emilia Romagna Pilot area. In addition, it will contribute to the geoportal and the adaptation plans for the Emilia Romagna coastal area development.

  • 29-30 November 2022 The “AdriaClim: 6th Partnership Meeting & 7th SC Meeting” hosted by RERA has been held in Zadar Croatia. Partners discussed about the state and play of WPs and next steps toward the final part of the project.
  • 11-14 October 2022: Dr. Veronica Santinelli (Unibo) took part to YOUMARES 13 Conference for Young Marine Researchers in Berlin (Germany) with  a poster on “Influence of hydrographic conditions on sediment organic carbon in a coastal area of the NW Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea)”
  • 13 October 2022: University of Bologna together with OGS-Trieste has organized a Seminar on “A high-resolution biogeochemical model for the Adriatic Sea, ongoing progresses” by Prof. Lorenzo Mentaschi
  • 12-13 July 2023: AdriaClim activities were disseminated at SciNMeet launch event- The Science we need for the Mediterranean Sea we want (CNR, Rome, Italy) by Prof. Roberta Guerra with a talk on “AdriaClim Activity 3.1-Design and implementation of the observing system”
  • 28 April 2022:  The fourth ocean campaing for AdriaClim is carried out. Dr. Veronica Santinelli from the University of Bologna together with ArpaeER and the support of the Arpae Cesenatico Daphne team collected sediment and seawater samples to study the effect of climate change along Adriatic Coast. 
  • 17 March 2022: AdriaClim has organized a Seminar on “Water security in the 21th century.”  which has been presented by Dott. Giulio Boccaletti from Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford.
  • 6 December 2021: The University of Bologna has organized a Seminar on “Historical data availability in the Adriatic Sea from the main EU marine infrastructures: SeaDataCloud data products for the Mediterranean Sea and the underlying data gaps.”  which has been presented by Ph.D. Scientist Simona SIMONCELLI from INGV.   • 1-2 December 2021: The “AdriaClim Project Meeting & Steering Committee” has been held online. The first morning has been dedicated to a technical discussion, while the next day aspects of coordination have been discussed.  
  •  1 December 2021: Veronica Santinelli from the University of Bologna, together with ArpaeER and the support of the Arpae Cesenatico Daphne team, has carried out the third ocean campaign for the AdriatiClim project by collecting sediment and seawater samples to predict the possible effects of climate change along the Adriatic coast.

  • 10 August 2021: ARPA FVG, as Project Partner of the INTERREG IT-HR AdriaClim project, participated in the NanoGreen Festival of Friuli-Venezia Giulia presenting a series of experiments and educational activities, for children, teens and adults, focused on sustainable development and the importance of climate change on a local scale.

  • 10 August 2021: The Ecoscienza, the journal of the ARPAE Emilia-Romagna with the number 3/2021, presents the AdriaClim project with an in-depth study on adaptation strategies to the effects of climate change on the seas.

  • 14 June 2021:  The scientist and technicians from the Laboratory of Physical Oceanography (IOF) team represent the Field Measurements for the AdriaClim Project and are collecting temperature, salinity, and transparency data in Split Dalmatia County and Dubrovnik- Neretva County pilot areas.
  • 14 June 2021: Laboratory of microbiology (IOF Split) conduces research with the aim to detect the response of Microbial Food Web to Environmental Changes for the ADRIACLIM project.

Short CV

Nadia PINARDI holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University, and she is full professor of Oceanography at Bologna University, Italy. Her interests range from ocean numerical modelling and predictions to data assimilation, numerical modelling of the marine physical-biological interactions and pollutants at sea. She has written more than hundred and thirty papers in peer reviewed journals on a wide range of subjects. The last topic of her research is the understanding of uncertainties in ensemble forecasting, data assimilation for ocean forecasting and oil spill numerical modelling coupled to operational oceanographic forecasts.

She has coordinated, since the middle of the nineties, the development and implementation of operational oceanography in the Mediterranean Sea, inside the strategy of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) of Unesco-IOC. She has been the director of the National Group of Operational Oceanography of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology from 2004 to 2012. She has been Member of the European Space Agency Space Advisory Group, of the European Environment Agency Scientific Advisory Committee and of the European Research Council for Earth Sciences. She is now co-president of the Joint Committee for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM), a WMO and Unesco-IOC coordinating group for the development of operational meteo-marine and oceanographic services. She is also Member of the Strategic Board of the Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC).
