SiNCEM

SINCEM research activities focus on the development of numerical models for the understanding and the forecasting of the ocean general circulation as well as on the climatic variability of the physical and biogeochemical marine cycles and the dispersal of pollution at sea.

The main research themes are:

• Oceanographic data time series analysis.
• Modelling the large scale and coastal circulation of the Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea.
• Modelling of the ecosystem dynamics for the primary producers of the Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea.
• Development of models describing transport and fate of pollutants in the ocean.

SINCEM co-operates closely with the Bologna section of the National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV), in particular with the Operational Oceanography National Group.

Internationally, Pinardi is the Co-Chair of the Mediterranean Operational Oceanography Network that aims to the stable implementation of Operational Oceanography services at the Mediterranean Basin and coastal scale.
